Friday and Saturday, Horse Camp, Swimming, Wild Edibles and More

Friday June 7, 2024

Dear Diary,

I woke at 6 am and let out the chicken, ducks, geese and kittens. I sat in the banana hut and wrote my blog until 7 am. I woke Angel up and we went into the house. Christopher had already left for work. I fed Bits, made tea and hung up laundry. I packed the 64 oz. jar of blended watermelon that was in the refrigerator from yesterday in the cooler.

Angel and I left to go to horse riding camp. This was her last day of camp and it was the day where the kids showed their parents what they learned during the week. It was fun watching the kids and Angel is starting to look like an expert rider. The program only took an hour and a half and we headed back home.

On the way home, I stopped at a plant nursery in Caldwell to buy some flower to put in front of the banana hut. The lady said she only accepted cash and I didn’t have any with me. We got to talking and found out that she knows my husbands whole family and went to school with Christopher’s ex-wife. I love small towns!

When we arrived home, I did chores and sat outside by the fountain watching the animals and listening to the sounds of the water. Christopher came home and wasn’t feeling good from getting overheated. I talked to him for a while until it was time to go to town to do a cat-sitting opportunity and get a massage.

Angel went with me into town because we were going swimming at the city pool after my massage. I fed the cats and arrived at my massage right on time. I knew the masseuse even though I didn’t know I knew her until I got there. Our adult daughters went to school together. Angel sat in a chair and played on her phone while I got my massage. I got a hot stone massage and it was amazing. The masseuse and I chatted while she worked on me and we will be going on some hikes together in the future. She loves to hike and often goes by herself but would love for someone to go with her. I would love to go!

After my massage we went to the city pool. There were a lot of people there that I knew and I had fun talking with them. There was a man there that I knew who had recently got divorced. I asked him how he was doing going through all that. Tears immediately came to his eyes and he said he is doing ok and thanked me for asking. I shared with him some words of support and reassurance. He said he really appreciated it. I could tell he was hurting and my heart went out to him.

Angel and I swam for an hour and then we went to the Kay Theater. The Kay board was interviewing a few high schoolers who applied for a summer internship. Angel played on her phone while I joined the interview session. There were 6 students that came to the interview and 2 will be chosen for the internship program. I thought it would be a difficult choice but by the end of the interview I knew what 2 I would be voting for. Tuesday night during our board meeting we will all put in our votes and the 2 will officially be chosen.

We arrived home and got ready for bed. We all gathered in the banana hut and I read aloud some of Bill Peet an autobiography. Christopher said goodnight and went into the house. I read a chapter from The National Park Mystery Series book 4 to Angel. We fell asleep around 9:30 pm listening to a sleep mediation.

Saturday June 8, 2024

Dear Diary,

I woke up at 6 am. I had slept hard. I woke up to pee in the night and tried to write my blog but I immediately fell asleep again. I got up and let out the kittens, ducks, chickens and geese. I gave them fresh water in their kiddie pool and let out the water in Angel’s swimming pool. I went in the house and greeted Christopher. I chatted with him but he didn’t seem to be enjoying my company so I gave him a hug and did a suduko puzzle. When I finished the puzzle I went out to the banana hut to write my blog. Angel was just getting up and she wanted me to finish sewing a hand bag that we had started making a month or so ago. I wanted to write my blog but I decided that doing a project with Angel was more meaningful.

I sat down at the sewing machine and Angel sat next to me. The sewing machine kept messing up and breaking threads. I kept adjusting things and still couldn’t get it to work right. Angel got bored with the whole process and said we could do it later. She went to the house and I continued to mess with the sewing machine a while until I quit the process as well and wrote my blog instead.

I laid on the bed and wrote my blog for 2.5 hours. It was nice to have a relaxing morning with nothing on the schedule. When my blog was posted, I went outside and cleaned Angel’s swimming pool. I scrubbed it until it was sparkling clean. I started filling it up and added a bunch of apple cider vinegar to the water to keep the pool nice.

I am giving a presentation on wild edibles July 7th at the trail depot in Rockdale. I called the lady in charge of that and asked her questions about how long the presentation needed to be and such things. She asked me to send pictures of the plants I will be talking about with some information about them and she will make up a poster. She also said she would set out business cards for me.

I got off the phone and started walking around our property taking pictures. Then I got online to order some business cards from vista print. I couldn’t decide on a design I liked from the templates, so I designed my own using the pictures I had taken. That whole process took way longer than I expected it to but I was glad to be getting business cards.

I cleaned the banana hut and did laundry. All day I collected eggs so LacyJane and Healer wouldn’t eat them. I made some new nesting spots for the chickens that the dogs couldn’t get to and I’ll see if the chickens like them. It was a beautiful day and I was glad to be home enjoying it.

In the afternoon, I went to town to feed the cats I’m pet sitting and stop at the store to buy some plants. On the way home I stopped at my friend Tracy’s and practiced my song that I am singing at church tomorrow. We sat and talked for a couple of hours and shared our experiences of when we first left home in our youth. He showed me a fun fountain he made and his dog Cassie and Bits played together.

Christopher was finishing up dinner when I arrived home. Angel wasn’t there, she had gone to visit with his mom again. She’s liking that she’s old enough to go over there by herself. Christopher made bbq again of portobello mushrooms, corn on the cob and stuffed mushrooms. Angel arrived home just as we started eating and sat down to eat with us. We shared our gratitudes around the table. Mine were:

  • I am grateful for a relaxing day.
  • I am grateful for my family.
  • I am grateful for wild edibles.

When we finished eating, Angel took Christopher’s mom a plate of food for dinner. I did the dishes and took a bath in the fresh swimming pool water. Angel came back and took a bath in the pool also. I put the plants I had bought in pots and put them around the banana hut.  Then I made tea and we all gathered in the banana hut for story-time. I read from Bill Peet an autobiography. Christopher said goodnight and went in the house. I put on a meditation for Angel while I wrote my blog. We fell asleep at around 10 pm.

Thank you for reading my blog and being a part of my life. I appreciate you.

Love,

Victoria
