4th of July Parade

Saturday June 6, 2024

Dear Diary,

I woke up at 3 AM, I fell asleep again at 4 AM. I woke up again at 5 AM. I woke Angel up and we went into the house. Christopher was already up and making breakfast. I made tea and packed up a cantaloupe smoothie left over from yesterday. Angel and I got ready to go decorate the float for the Kay theater that we were entering in the parade today. We were using my friend Rachele‘s trailer.

I drove to Rachele’s, she and her two boys finishing up getting ready. I hooked the trailer to my truck. Rachele’s older son, Rachele and I decorated it. It didn’t take long, 15 or 20 minutes at the most. We stapled red fringe around the outside and stapled movie themed decals on top of the fringe. Angel got into her princess costume and Rachele’s youngest son was dressed up like a scarecrow. We all got in my truck and drove to the Kay theater.

At the Kay Theater, Rachele’s older son, Rachele and I put on Kay theater T-shirts. We put the Kay theater drum in the trailer and put Kay theater magnets on the side of the truck. We were officially ready. We drove to the parade lineup, which was only three blocks away. During the parade, Rachele would be driving my truck and I would be riding in the trailer with the kids.

We had two hours before the parade started. Our kids rode a pony around that a lady in front of us had for her kids to ride during the parade. I assisted in the lineup for a while and guided people as they pulled in. Then, I walked to the Kay theater to get a flag that I had forgotten. After that, I walked to a convenience store to see if they had containers of kids bubbles. We had one container that we were using to blow bubbles during the parade, but I wanted to find a couple more. The store didn’t have any. We would just make do with the one. Rachele and I sat on the curb and talked while the kids watched a movie on their phone.

When the parade started, Rachele’s older son played the drum and Little Bit sat on my lap while I blew bubbles. Rachele’s youngest son and Angel waved at people as we drove by. I was surprised at how few people showed up to watch the parade, but it was still a lot of fun. I saw lots of people I knew as we drove by. I love living in a small town community where so many people know each other.

When the parade was over, we drove to the Kay theater and returned the flag, drum and magnets. Then we stopped at the store and went to Moon brew to get something to eat. I love going to Moon brew to eat because I know they are going to have healthy food choices and Bits can come in with me. I had a salad and a hot chocolate made with cacao and almond milk. My friend Rita that co-owns the shop was there working and she gave me a gift bag filled with natural bath salts, a bath mitt and a bath stone. She said it was a thank you gift for helping them out. It was a delightful surprise and I loved it. I thanked her and gave her a hug. We talked for a few minutes and then she went back to work. The lady that had asked me to give the talk on wild edibles, Kathleen, came in to the shop and we briefly talked about what I would need for my presentation tomorrow. I felt so grateful for the opportunity to give a presentation about wild edible plants and I told her. She said that she was really excited about it. I was too!

I took Rachele and her boys home. I unhitched the trailer and thanked her for doing the parade with me. Then I drove to Thorndale to drop Angel off with her adopted grandma Peggy. We were meeting at the Dollar General. On the drive we listened to a Bobbsey Twins audiobook. We arrived a few minutes early and I was feeling really tired. I laid back my seat and fell asleep instantly for about 10 minutes until Peggy showed up. Angel and Peggy were very excited to see each other and gave each other a big hug. Then I hugged Peggy and got Angel settled into the car. I told them I would see them tomorrow and drove home.

When I arrived home, I greeted Christopher and told him about the parade. I collected eggs and swam in the swimming pool for a few minutes. Then Christopher and I had cuddle/nap time in the banana hut for about an hour.

Christopher got up and went outside and I wrote my blog. I finished writing and asked Christopher if he wanted to go eat somewhere to celebrate our 4 year wedding anniversary. He liked that idea and we decided on Joe’s Italian in Rockdale. We got ready to go and drove to  town. We hadn’t been out to eat in a long time and I was really hungry. I was tempted to order pasta but my intuition immediately said that was not a good idea. I ordered the Greek salad and I was glad I did. It was a big salad and easily satisfied my hunger.

When we arrived back at home, we were both tired. Christopher said he had eaten a week’s worth of cheese 😂. We said our good nights and I went out to the banana hut. I talked to my friend Tracey on the phone for a few minutes. Then I closed up the ducks, chickens and geese. I put fresh water in their pools so it would be nice and clean when I let them out in the morning. There are a few chickens that sleep under the tree on top of one of the coops. I’d been letting them sleep there but tonight I decided that they needed to be inside a coop so nothing would get them in the night. One by one, I caught them and put them in a coop. By the time I finished all of that, it wasn’t an early bed time after all. I went to bed and wrote my blog. I fell asleep at around 10 pm.

Thank you for reading my blog and being a part of my life. I appreciate you.

Love, Victoria
