Seven Devils Mining District, Pet Sitting and Friends

October 22, 2025

Morning prayer:

Good morning God,

  • Thank you for this day.
  • Thank you for a house.
  • Thank you for great friends.
  • Thank you for humbleness.
  • Thank you for love.

I love you!

Dear Diary,

I awoke at 3 AM. I wrote my blog and posted it. I slept more from 5 AM to 8 AM. I felt well rested and grateful to experience another day. I got up, made tea and fixed Angel breakfast. Then we got ready to leave and went to my first cleaning opportunity.

I cleaned 2 houses and went to the thrift store. That took up 5 hours of my day. Then I had a phone session with a life coaching client. The session went great. I’ve been working with this client for 6 years and it’s been great seeing her transformations over time. I’m considering putting more time into my life coaching business. I haven’t advertised for years and amazingly I still have clients that trickle in.

When I got off the phone, I cleaned the bank. I was feeling tired and considering an early bedtime but there was a presentation in New Meadows on the Seven Devils mining district that I wanted to go to. I roused myself and drove to New Meadows. Angel and I listened to an audiobook on the drive and I enjoyed seeing all the beautiful fall colors.

The presentation was really interesting and I was glad that I went. Now I want to go back up to Peacock mine and actually go down to it and see if I can find pieces of garnet. There are quite a few other mines up in that area that I didn’t know about and I want to go see them as well. I can get to the other mines on my 4-wheeler. I might not be able to get there this year before the snow comes but I’ll go next summer.

All the mines up in that area failed because the copper found was in pockets rather than veins. Getting the ore out of those rugged mountains was also a challenge. A train grade was attempted but was never completed. A guy named Kleinschmidt built the Kleinschmidt grade down to the Snake river. From the top of the road near Sheep rock all the way down to the bottom at the Snake River, the road drops 5,000 feet in 30 miles. The ore was hauled down to the river on the narrow road by wagon and put on a steam boat. That failed because the Snake River wasn’t deep enough for the steam boat and the boat couldn’t handle the rapids. Attempts to blast the river to make it deeper also failed. The mines had too much against them and not one person made a profit off of them.

It was a great presentation and I think Angel even enjoyed it. When we got home, we went straight to bed at around 10:30 PM.

Dear Diary,

I was awake from 1:30 AM to 3:30 AM. I read, prayed and meditated during that time. At 7:30 AM, I awoke again. Angel was just waking up. I made her breakfast and for myself I made tea and a smoothie. I went to my friend TJ’s where I checked on the chickens, rolled up the outside water hoses for the winter and watered plants.

Next, I went to a farm sitting opportunity. The pet owners were just leaving and they went through all the instructions with me to make sure everything was clear. Then they left and I stayed with Izzy the dog for a while until it was time to take Mr. and Mrs. H to an appointment in Meridian.

The drive there was uneventful and while Mrs. H was at her appointment, Mr. H, Angel , Little Bit, T-boy and I waited in the truck. While we sat there, a guy came over and said his car wouldn’t start and asked if we had a battery box to charge his battery. Mr. H said he didn’t have a battery box but he had jumper cables. The guy said that would be great but didn’t think we could get close enough to his car to hook them up. I walked over to his car and assessed the situation. He was parked in a corner spot that had plants and shrubs in concrete beds on both sides of his car. I saw that if I drove up on the edge of the sidewalk, it was possible to barely fit Mr. H’s truck between a pole and some bushes. If I was careful, I could do it and that would put us close enough to jump start the guys car. Mr. H can’t see very well and I discussed the situation with him. He said to go for it and so I did. I had to gently pop the truck up on the edge of the sidewalk curb without giving it too much gas and squeeze inbetween the pole and the bushes. It was intense getting up on the curb but I did it perfectly without putting a scratch on the truck. We hooked up the jumper cables and got the guys car running. He was thrilled and his wife handed me $20 which I refused, telling her it was a gift.

Mrs. H came out from her appointment as we were finishing up. We got something to eat and drove back up the mountain. I got Mr. and Mrs. H settled in, then I dropped Angel off at my sisters, took Little Bit and T-boy home and went to my farm sitting opportunity. Their dog Izzy is not friendly with kids or other dogs, so Angel is sleeping at my sisters and the pups are staying home alone. I’m glad they have each other to cuddle up with because they are used to sleeping with me.

At my farm sit, I fed Izzy and the cats. I put the chickens up for the night and played with Izzy. Then I went to bed and went to sleep right at around 10 PM.

Good morning God,

  • Thank you for pet sitting opportunities.
  • Thank you for team work.
  • Thank you for light.
  • Thank you for love.

Dear Diary,

I was awake in the night, did a full body relaxation session and went back to sleep. I awoke again when it got light out. I fed Izzy and the cats and let the chickens out. Then I had a Life Coaching phone call. The session went really good, I love being a life coach for people, it comes naturally. Working with people is one of my gifts.

After getting off the phone, I went home and Angel came home from my sisters. I let the dogs out and they were so happy to see us. My neighbor walked by and said she was going to the thrift store. I told her that I would join her. I put the dogs up and we started walking. We saw a mutual friend walking by and we were saying hello to her when we saw another neighbor sitting down in her front yard. When asked if she was ok, she said she had fallen and couldn’t get up. The three of us ran over to her. I saw my friend DC driving by on his 4-wheeler and I waved him down and asked him to help. I was glad I did because it took all 4 of us to get the lady up.

Once she was on her feet, DC and our friend walked with her to the cafe where she had been headed before she fell. My neighbor and I continued on to the thrift store. I didn’t see anything I wanted at the store and didn’t stay long. I walked home and drove to my farm sitting opportunity and spent time with Izzy and the cats. Later in the morning, I cleaned the church, then I went to Mr. and Mrs. H’s. I cleaned for Mr. and Mrs. H for a couple of hours and when we got home, I cleaned the bank.

After cleaning the bank, Angel went to my sisters and I tucked the dogs in before going to my farm sitting opportunity. I fed the animals and put the chickens up for the night. I went to bed and wrote my blog notes and went to sleep right away.
