Sewing and More Sewing

Dear Diary,

Good morning God,

  • Thank you for this day.
  • Thank you for my mom.
  • Thank you for rest.
  • Thank you for writing opportunities.
  • Thank you for movies.
  • Thank you for tea.

I love you!

I woke at 2:30AM. I played wordle and connections and fell back asleep. I woke up again at 4:30AM. I heard my mom up walking around in the other room. I got up and talked to her a few minutes. Then I went back to bed and wrote my blog. At 6AM, I slept some more until 8:30AM. I finally felt fully rested and got up.

My mom and Angel were in the sewing room. Angel was watching TV and my mom was sewing a quilt on the long-arm. I greeted them and my mom showed me some quilting ideas she thought would be fun for me to do. I looked through them and picked out a quilted Christmas tree wall hanging. Before I started on it, I made myself some tea and made oatmeal for Angel. I snacked on some walnuts and a couple of mandarin oranges. I had a pinch in the right side of my lower back and I stretched a few minutes until I felt it ease up.

My mom set me up at one of her sewing machines and I got started sewing. Most of the quilt squares were already cut out, which was nice, and my mom cut out the rest while I sewed. The rest of the morning was spent sewing. Angel watched kids shows on Netflix and was happy to get to watch TV for hours. Normally I don’t let her watch TV for very long. I personally think it’s better for kids to not stare at and be programmed by a screen all day. Instead, I think they should spend a lot of time touching and feeling the world around them by playing with toys and coloring and drawing and running and bicycling and being outside looking at the “big screen”. My mom and sister disagree and think having kids play video games and watch TV for hours at a time is perfectly fine. Maybe it is and I let it be ok now and then but I do make sure that the TV programs teach kindness and have a good message and that the video games are not violent.

At 12:30PM, I took a break from sewing and went to the store to get more lettuce for salads and wrapping paper for my mom. The first thing I did at the store was go to the photo kiosks to print out some Christmas cards with personal pictures on them. All the kiosks were being used, so I waited until one of them opened up. A half hour later I was able to access one. I got started right away and was almost finished when the system crashed and the lady at the Photo Booth couldn’t get it up and running again. She suggested I do it online. So I did and they will be shipped to my house but won’t arrive until December 19.

I went in search of wrapping paper. My mom also wanted a container to put wrapping paper in. I got the wrapping paper but couldn’t find a container. After searching for a while, I found someone who works at the store and asked him. He said they were sold out. Ok, so I went and got lettuce, bananas, olipops and noodles. Then I hearted (headed) back to my mom’s. I had been gone 2 hours.

At my mom’s, I made Angel noodles and my mom and I had salad. Then Angel went back to watching TV and I sewed some more. At 4:30PM, I decided to go for a walk before it got completely dark out. Angel was tired of watching TV (yay!) and went with me. We took Little Bit and my mom’s dog Max. We went down to the end of the block and Angel wanted to go back because it was cold out. She still hasn’t gotten used to the idea that it stays cold here for months and is not going to warm up in a couple of days like it does in Texas.

The house across the street from my mom’s has 3 boys that Angel likes to play with. She asked if she could play at their house. I walked over there with her and they were happy to have her stay and play for a while. I talked to the parents for a few minutes and told them to send Angel home in an hour or so.

I went back inside my mom’s and continued sewing. I finished putting the squares together and my mom put the wall hanging on the long-arm. She showed me how to use the machine and I quilted the pattern on. Then she sewed the binding on for me and it was done. It had taken all day but it was completed. Yay!

Angel came back and said that she’d had a lot of fun playing with the neighbor kids. We all got in the hot tub and soaked a while. When we got out, I made grilled cheese sandwiches for my mom and Angel. I wasn’t going to eat but I ended up eating Angels left over crust. I had eaten Angels left under noodles earlier and still felt yucky from that. I didn’t have a smoothie today or any ripe bananas and had gotten too hungry. It’s ok though. I know that I’ll get back to eating raw again. It’s a process and I hadn’t gotten fully prepared before coming to my mom’s.

I started a load of laundry and tucked Angel in bed in the couch. Then I told my mom goodnight and we all went to bed. I wrote down blog notes and read a Louis L’Amour book for a short amount of time. Then I turned off the light and went to sleep at 10PM.

Thank you for reading my blog and being a part of my life. I appreciate you.

Love, Victoria
