Wednesday and Thursday: Friends and Halloween

Wednesday October 30, 2024,

Dear Diary,

Good morning God,

  • Thank you for mornings.
  • Thank you for children.
  • Thank you for friendships.
  • Thank you for healthy food.
  • Thank you for apples.
  • Thank you for sunshine.
  • Thank you for this day.

I love you!

I was awake in the night from 1 am to 4 am. I slept again until 7:45 am. When I woke up, I could hear Angel talking to my sister and playing a video game on the TV. I went downstairs, said good morning and turned the TV off. My sister left for work and I made tea for myself and waffles for Angel. Angel ate, then we went upstairs and she drew a picture of a giraffe for art and wrote a letter to Christopher for reading and writing.

We got ready to go to the post office to mail the letter. I went outside to make sure the kennel gate was closed so my sister’s dog Huckleberry wouldn’t get out while we were gone. I closed the gate but I couldn’t find Huckleberry anywhere. I looked all over the house and went outside to check the yard. Angel went around to the backyard while I looked in the front and she found the back gate wide open. Huckleberry had escaped. I called my sister and told her. Then I started walking all over town looking for him. Angel rode her bicycle and searched with me. I saw my sister driving down the road looking for Huckleberry too. She stopped to talk to me and I told her where I had already walked. She told me where she had looked and we agreed to text each other if one of us found him. I kept walking and calling for him, then my sister sent me a text saying that she had found him. Yay! I was so glad he was found. We met up with my sister at the house, she put Huck inside and we made sure all the gates were closed.

My sister went back to work and Angel and I went to the post office. We sent the letter and I asked about getting added to my sisters P.O. Box. The little town we are living in doesn’t deliver mail to houses and you have to have a P.O. Box. The lady at the counter said that my sister would need to come in and add me. I thanked her and we went to the grocery store to get raspberries for Angel. They were out of raspberries which Angel wasn’t happy about. We even looked to see if they had frozen raspberries but they didn’t. We stopped at the thrift store to see if they had a winter coat for Angel. She doesn’t like the one she has. There was a girl there around Angels age who was with her mom and baby sister. Angel played with her in the toy section while I looked for a coat. They didn’t have any coats in Angels size.

When we got home, Angel ate a bean taco and went outside to ride her bicycle some more. I called the storage unit facility in town to see if they had any units available and they were completely full. I want a small storage for my kayaks and camping gear. Since there were no storage intros available, I decided I would organize my sisters garage and make room for my stuff. My truck trailer still had everything on it that I had brought from Texas. I drove the trailer to the back by my sisters garage and unloaded it. Then I organized the garage and got my stuff to fit in there nicely. As I was finishing up, Angel came out to the garage with a phone number for the mother of the girl she had met at the thrift store. She had seen the girl when she was bicycling around the block and wanted the girl to come over to play. I called the girls mother and she said that she would be happy to come over and meet me. The girls played together upstairs while the other mother and I talked. They stayed for a couple of hours and I was glad that Angel had a friend to play with.

When they left, I finished organizing the garage. I brought in a little dresser that I had bought to put in the motorhome. It was the perfect size to fit in a space upstairs next to the sewing machine. I put sewing and craft stuff in it and now everything upstairs is organized.

I went in the attic to get out my sisters Halloween decorations. Angel and my sister wanted to decorate the outside of the house tonight since tomorrow was Halloween. As I was looking for the decorations, I shined the light in the back of the attic and saw this:

I about had a heart attack it scared me so much. I had forgotten that my sister had that stuffed cougar. She used to have it in the upstairs windows at the front of the house. Once I recovered from my scare, I found the Halloween decorations and Angel helped me carry them downstairs.

Angel looked through the decorations and put them around outside while I rested on the couch and wrote down blog notes. My sister came home and walked Huckleberry. When she got back, she went through the Halloween decorations with Angel. Then they played video games together. I made a big salad for myself and Angel had a bean taco. After I ate, I took a nice hot bath. When I got out, Angel got in. When she was done bathing, we got ready for bed. I read her 3 stories and put on a sleep meditation. We fell asleep at around 9 pm.

Thank you for reading my blog and being a part of my life. I appreciate you.

Love, Victoria

Dear Diary,

Good morning God,

  • Thank you for Halloween.
  • Thank you for connections.
  • Thank you for a home.
  • Thank you for love.
  • Thank you for laughter.
  • Thank you for peace of mind.

I love you!

I woke up at 6 am and wrote my blog. Angel woke up and played with her toys in the room next to me. I asked her if she was hungry and she said she wanted waffles for breakfast. When I went downstairs, my sister was getting ready for work. I told her good morning. I made myself some tea and started Angels waffles. When the waffles were ready, Angel came downstairs and ate. She told me that she wanted to make a Halloween costume for Little Bit as part of her schoolwork and had thought of an idea of how to make him a dragon costume. I thought that was a great idea and as soon as she finished eating, she ran upstairs to get started. I cleaned up the kitchen and started laundry. Then I went upstairs to see how the costume was coming along.

Angel had cut out a square piece of green felt and cut leg holes in it for Bits’ front legs to go through and was sewing on a tail. We tried the costume of Bits but it was too little. So we started over and decided to make it fit like a cape rather than cutting out leg holes. I had some stick on velcro that we used to attach it around Bits’ neck. Then we cut out a piece of felt to go around his head and put sticky velcro on it. Angel sewed a tail onto the cape, the we cut out a strip of yellow hard felt fabric for the spikes on the head and back. We hot glued it on and added horns on the side of the head. Here is a video of the beginning stages of the costume:

We cleaned up Angels room and got ready to walk to the hardware store. Right as we were about to leave, Angel said she was hungry and wanted cantaloupe. I cut up half a cantaloupe and we both ate it. Then we went to the hardware store. I walked and Angel rode her bicycle. I bought wall hooks and was going to have Angel do the math to figure out the 6% tax and pay for them but I forgot. I’ll remember next time.

The library was open today so we went there next. The library is only open 3 days a week, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Angel immediately found the toys and started playing with them. I waited to talk to the librarian. She was helped a man look up something on the computer. When she finished, I asked her what I needed to do to get a library card. She handed me an index card and said all I needed to do was write down my name, address and phone number. She told me that they do everything manually, the old fashioned way and nothing is computerized. I had noticed while waiting to talk to the librarian that the library had the “old school” card files to find books and I had shown Angel how they worked. I asked the librarian how many books and DVDs we could check out and she said that there was no limit. I thanked her for her help and told her we had just moved here. She welcomed us and said that she had seen me “like” posts on the library Facebook page and was wondering who I was. Council is a very small town with 950 people in it so it didn’t surprise me that she had noticed a new name.

I read Angel a story about a sad little colt whose mother had died but eventually he was adopted by a mare whose colt had died. The colt and the mare were happy to have each other and loved each other. I asked Angel if she would be sad if she didn’t have a mother and she said yes but then her aunt would take care of her and spoil her and let her do whatever she wanted. Mmhmmm…how easily I am replaced 😂. Angel picked out a Halloween book and a Garfield DVD to check out. When I went to check them out, a man standing near the front counter started talking to me about homeschool programs online and about how he had 3 bachelors degrees and 2 masters degrees and about more online resources and about his siblings degrees and much more. He went on and on. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw the librarian give me a look that said that this guy would go on talking for a long time. I gave her a side smile and patiently waited for the man to say all he needed to say. He suggested we go over to the computer so that he could show me all the online resources he was talking about. I knew that would take hours and I declined. I said that we had our dog waiting outside for us, which we did. Bits was outside with his coat on visiting with another dog that was also waiting for his owner to come out. The man eventually ran out of things to say and I thanked him for the information. The librarian let Angel stamp the return date on the book and DVD we checked out and explained to her how their file system worked.

We hearted (headed) home and stopped at the thrift store on the way. I love that the thrift store is one block away from our house. I looked for some screws but they didn’t have any that I wanted. When we got home, Angel watched her Garfield DVD while I found some screws and a stud-finder in the garage. I went upstairs and got out my cordless drill and attached a retractable clothes line to my bedroom wall. It didn’t go smoothly. The stud finder wasn’t accurate and there were other minor complications but eventually I got it up. Yay! I got our clean clothes out of the washing machine and hung them up. I was very happy to have a place to hang my clothes to dry without having to use the dryer. Dryers use a lot of electricity and we go through a lot of laundry. Regardless of the cost of electricity, I prefer line drying clothes. Christopher and I line dried and didn’t even own a dryer but I line dried before I met him. I’ve line dried my clothes for years. There’s something about the simplicity of it that I really enjoy.

I made Angel a bean taco for lunch and took a short nap. I woke up when my friend Brett came over. He had brought a homemade pumpkin pie, made with one of his homegrown pumpkins. Brett helped me move my kayaks into the backyard. Tomorrow a man is coming to add rocks to the front and back parking areas and the area needed to be cleared out. When we came back inside, he helped me cut up vegetables and we started a veggie soup cooking on the stove.

My sister came home and we moved our trailers from the back parking area to her friends land down the road. When we got back, Angel got ready to go trick-or-treating. She was really excited and put on her princess costume. My sister went trick-or-treat with her and I stayed home to hand out candy. In between hanging out candy, Brett and I watched Rango and ate vegetable soup and pumpkin pie. Angel and my sister didn’t stay out very long. Angel said she had plenty of candy and was cold. My sister and Angel sat watching Rango with us and ate some soup and pie.

My sister went to bed early and as soon as the movie was over Brett went home. I cleaned up the kitchen and living room and handed out more candy while Angel took a bath. At 9 pm, I turned off the porch light and locked up the house. Angel and I went upstairs. I put away the clothes on the line and read Angel the Halloween story she had gotten from the library. I put on a sleep meditation for her to listen to, then I went downstairs and had a quick shower. I got into bed and fell asleep at around 10:30 pm.

Thank you for reading my blog and being a part of my life. I appreciate you.
