Dear Diary,
Good morning God,
- Thank you for this day.
- Thank you for my family.
- Thank you for snow storms.
- Thank you for memories.
- Thank you got Little Bit.
I love you!
I awoke at 3 AM. I wrote my blog and played world and connections. Angel came in as I was finishing up my blog and crawled in bed with me. I put on a sleep meditation and turned out the light. Angel slept fitfully and kept waking me up by thrashing around.
At 8 AM, I officially got up and got ready to go to the airport to get my son Scott. My mom was up and feeding Angel. I checked on Savana and she was awake. She wanted to go with me to the airport and Angel decided to stay with her grandma.
Savana and I hearted (headed) to Boise early. I wanted to take the back roads and do some sight seeing on the way. As soon as we left, Scott sent me a text saying that his flight was landing early. If we didn’t do any sight seeing we would arrive right on time to pick him up. Good thing we left early.
We picked Scott up at the airport and drove near downtown Boise to get a smoothie from my favorite smoothie place called Tree City. When we arrived, the store was no longer there. So we went to my old coffee shop hangout in downtown Boise called Flying M. I used to ride my bicycle there almost daily and get fresh squeezed OJ. They didn’t have fresh squeezed OJ anymore so I got a cold pressed juice and a chai latte with almond milk. I was amazed to see that some of the same people worked there. I moved away 10 years ago. For a coffee shop to keep employees for over 10 years, it must be a great place to work. Scott, Savana and I looked around the Flying M gift shop. They always have funny gag gifts and unique things. Savana said that she only wants gifts from Flying M for Christmas this year. I guess I will be making the 2 1/2 hour drive to Boise just to visit Flying M at Christmas time. Maybe I’ll buy everyone’s gifts from there.

On the way back to my mom’s, we drove by my old trailer and it looked to be well taken care of. Then we stopped at Fred Meyer to see if they had a bathing suit for Scott since he forgot to bring one. I didn’t think they would have bathing suits since it’s winter time but amazingly they did. I got some produce while we were there, bananas and little oranges.

It started snowing as soon as we left Freddy’s. I knew a snow storm was coming with high winds and a white-out was predicted. I took the back roads to Caldwell. I didn’t want to be on the interstate during a white-out and it’s a good thing because there ended up being a 30+ car pileup between Boise and Caldwell.
I drove slow and we made it to my mom’s without any incidents. We laughed and made white-out jokes on the way. My mom had been worried about us and was glad we made it safely. She had made a bunch of food for us, we ate and all got in the hot tub, except for my mom. We had fun soaking in the water. Scott and Savana got out several times to roll in the snow and jump back in.

I got out before everyone else and laid on the couch, planning to take a nap. Shortly after I laid down, the kids all came in. Savana wanted to go to thrift stores to look for snow pants and Scott decided to join us. It was still snowing out but the roads weren’t too bad. We went to a couple of thrift stores but they didn’t have snow pants. I found a big empty parking lot and spun some donuts, sort of. Mostly I just drove in a circle since the truck didn’t seem to want to go into a slide. Probably because of my studded snow tires.
We went to Walmart and the kids found some snow pants but only one pair fit. I bought some more produce and we went back to my mom’s. My mom had people over picking out fabric for her to make a quilt for them. It was a lady with 3 kids. Two of the kids were teenagers and one was a girl Angels age. Angel and the girl played hide and seek. Pretty soon the girls older sister joined in on the game. I stripped the sheets off of all the beds that we had slept in and Savana helped me put clean ones on. Then Savana joined in the game of hide and seek.
My mom had food ready for us to eat other than the mashed potatoes. The lady was still there picking out fabric, so I finished making the potatoes and we all ate. Then we packed up to go to Council. I wanted to get there before dark, especially since I would be driving up the mountain on icy roads.
The lady left with her kids just as we were heading out the door. We hugged my mom goodbye. She was concerned about us driving on the roads and wanted us to stay another night but we wanted to get to Council. As we were leaving my mom’s subdivision, there was a car stuck in the snow going the other way. I stopped and Savana and Scott got out and pushed the car until it got traction. My truck was doing great on the roads with my studded snow tires. We were having a great time and laughing.

We went through a roundabout and came to a 2nd roundabout. I felt the truck slide a little as I stopped to wait for a clear path when suddenly we were hit from behind. We weren’t hit hard and I got out to see the damage. It was a Domino’s pizza delivery car and the young lady driving it got out too. Her car had hit my hitch and my truck wasn’t damaged at all. Her car looked to only be damaged on the grill. Our vehicles were stuck together though and we couldn’t go anywhere. The traffic behind us was driving around by driving on part of the sidewalk. We called the police and waited for them to arrive. I called my mom and told her that we had been in a little fender bender but we were all fine. She started crying and said that she had been worried about us driving. She wanted us to come back.
About 20 minutes later, a police officer arrived and looked at the situation. He asked if we could move our vehicles and we told him we were stuck together. He asked if I had 4 wheel drive. I said that I didn’t but that I had a low gear. He told me to drive forward in low and told the lady to drive in reverse. I started going and pulled the ladies car behind me a couple of feet, then we broke apart. We drove around the corner into an empty parking lot, where we gave the officer our information. While we were waiting for the officer to file the report, the kids and I sat in the truck and watched people driving down the road. It was quite the show and we laughed and laughed.
Then a SUV randomly stopped in the middle of the road and a big suburban came up fast being them. We thought for sure he was going to hit the SUV but at the last second, he went to the side of them and slide sideways into the sidewalk. He corrected and the suburban spun the other way. Somehow the suburban got straight again and continued on down the road still spinning out. The SUV that was stopped in the middle of the road started going again. I have no idea why thy had stopped like they did, they stalled out but I was glad they didn’t get hit.
Cars were sliding all over the place. Then over at the roundabout, there was another minor rear end accident. I decided that we were not going to drive to Council and were going to go back to my moms. The kids didn’t want to go back but I knew that was the best plan. The roads were too icy. I called my older sister in Council and she said that the roads were bad up there too and was glad we wouldn’t be driving on them.
We made it back to my mom’s and she was happy we had come back. We started watching a movie called Out of Africa. Scott and Savana got an Uber and went to town to go bar hopping. When the movie was over. Angel and I went to bed. She read aloud Oh The Places You Will Go and I read a chapter of Ranger in Time: Long Road to Freedom. Then I put on a sleep meditation and we went to sleep at around 9 PM.
Thank you for reading my blog and being a part of my life. I appreciate you.
Love, Victoria
