Recovered but Not Really

Sunday October 6, 2024

Dear Diary,

I woke up at 5 am and fell asleep again until 8 am. My fever had broke but I still felt weak. I got up and let the dogs out and fed them. I fed the cat and made tea. I washed the bedding and while it was washing I slowly packed stuff up and carried it out to the truck. I wasn’t moving very fast and it took a while. When the bedding was done washing and drying. I made the bed and straightened up the bedroom.

I drove to my new pet sitting opportunity, which is at my friends Rita and Val’s. On the way there I saw a Great Pyrenees standing in the middle of the dirt road. I stopped and he walked up to the truck. He looked like he had a scrape on his head and seemed lost even though he had a collar on. I rolled down my windows and talked to him. I decided if he was still there on my way back, I would get out and see if there was a tag on his collar. I dropped off my stuff at Rita and Val’s and greeted their dogs. On my way back, the dog was still there, I slowly got out and he seemed friendly. I talked to him but he wouldn’t let me touch him. I didn’t see any tags on his collar. I called my friend Rachele who lives up the road from there but she didn’t answer. I set some dog food and water out for him but he didn’t want either of those. I decided to continue on and wait for Rachele to call me back.

When I arrived at my original pet sitting house, I noticed I had forgotten to pack my suitcase and small cooler in my truck earlier because they were still sitting in the house. I guess my mind was still fuzzy from having the fever. I loaded the last of my things in the truck and vacuumed the house. I sat down to read a book and cuddle with the dogs when Rachele called me back. She said she would go a little later on and see if she could help the dog.

I read my book until the pet owners came home. The pups were so happy to see them. We talked for a few minutes and they paid me and gave me a sweet card.

I left and drove to Rita and Val’s. The Great Pyrenees dog wasn’t there when I passed by where he had been. There was no sign of him anywhere and my hope was that he found his way home. I texted Rachele letting her know. As soon as I pulled up to Rita and Val’s, Rachele texted me saying the dog wasn’t there. We must have just crossed paths and texts don’t always go through right away out in the country.

I unloaded the last of my stuff and brought it into Rita and Val’s. I noticed they had a vitamix already so I wouldn’t have to pull mine out. They also had the same kind of electric tea pot as I had. I wouldn’t have to unpack any of my kitchen supplies then. I gave the dogs a treat and drove to Christopher’s. He said that Angel had walked to his moms but would be back shortly. He helped me loaded up my cleaning supplies and hammock. We sat and talked until Angel came back. I watched Angel play in the pool. She wanted me to join her but I was still feeling really weak and I had done a lot today in my weakened state. Angel swam a while, then she sat and talked to me. She wanted to go with me. I told her that this was her time with her dad before we move away and I would get her later in the week. I also told her that I still needed to fully recover from being sick and wouldn’t be any fun. I hugged her goodbye and drove to Rita and Val’s.

When I got there, I noticed they had left white rice in their rice cooker on warm. I ate some of the rice and immediately felt completely zapped. My headache and fever came back. I set up the hammock in the living room. Fed the dogs and cats and laid in the hammock. The hammock felt so good. My body was sore from laying in a bed for the last couple of days. The hammock took all the pressure off those sore spots. I fell asleep right away and slept solidly for 12 hours straight. From 9 pm to 9 am.

Thank you for reading my blog and being a part of my life. I appreciate you.

Love, Victoria
