Dear Diary,
Morning prayer:
Good morning God,
- Thank you for this day.
- Thank you for wilderness.
- Thank you for pet sitting opportunities.
- Thank you for friends.
- Thank you for love.
I love you!
Dear Diary,
I awoke at 1:30 AM. I wrote my blog and went to the bathroom. I noticed the bathroom sink where I was pet sitting was clogged. I spent an hour attempting to unclog it with a plunger. Finally I decided I would pull the p-trap later in the morning and get it all cleaned out. I played connections and wordle and went back to sleep at 5 AM. I awoke again at 8 AM and first thing I did was get a bucket to unclog the bathroom sink. I pulled the p-trap off but it was clear. I used an old knife to poke into the drain pipe and a huge clump of goop dropped into the bucket along with the water that was backed up. Success! I put the p-trap back on and dumped the bucket of water out back. Then I proceeded to clean the whole house. When I finished, Angel and I told Lucky that her people would be home soon and we went home to Council.
When we arrived, Savana was just waking up. I fed Angel breakfast and walked to the thrift store. Savana was coming out of the apartment when I got back and she said she wanted to go to the thrift store to look for large print books to buy for her godmother. I said I would walk back there with her. First we stopped at the gift shop below my apartment and got a few things. Then we found one large print book at the thrift store.
Next we got ready to go see the Seven Devils mountains from Heavens Gate lookout tower outside of Riggins. Savana wanted to go to a grocery store in McCall first, so we went there and drove through town, stopping at all 3 grocery stores since I wanted to get some things too. McCall was busy on a Saturday, driving through town and navigating the grocery store parking lots gave me many wonderful opportunities to practice patience. With that said, I was glad when we were out of there.
The road to Heavens Gate got really rough and steep the last couple of miles. It followed along the edge of a cliff and was really intense. Parts of the road were partially covered in snow and I had to drive really close to the edge to get past. I was hoping my tires would hold out because part of the road was made up of sharp pointed rocks. My truck has highway tires on it since that’s what it came with when I bought it. Amazingly the tires did great and we made it to the parking area without incident. We hiked up the trail which is .8 of a mile and arrived at the lookout tower. There were some other people up there too and a man offered to take a picture of us together. We accepted and had him take the picture with the Seven Devils mountains in the background. From the peak you can see 4 states, Oregon, Washington, Montana and of course Idaho. We were at 8,400 feet and it was cold up there at 58° F. Down in Riggins it was 86° F. That’s a big difference in temperature. We hung out for about 45 minutes, reading informational signs and basking in the view. Then we hiked back down to the truck and hearted (headed) home.

The drive home was uneventful. My son Scott and daughter-in-love Delany had driven up to Council from Salt Lake City and had arrived right before us. They were at my older sisters waiting. After bringing up our groceries to the apartment we walked over to my sisters. We all sat outside talking and making plans for a whitewater rafting trip we were all going on tomorrow. The company we booked the trip with was supposed to have booked us on the Salmon river near Riggins but instead they booked us down the north fork of the Payette river and we were meeting clear down near Horseshoe Bend. It’s a two hour and 15 minute drive each way and we would have to leave at 6:15 AM the next morning to get there on time. We decided to all ride together in Scott and Delany’s truck.
The kids were hungry, so we walked to the pizza place to eat. We had fun hanging out. It was nice having 3 of my 4 kids together. We ate and once again, I had some bread sticks after I ate my salad and my stomach immediately started hurting again. I’m not sure why bread is a temptation lately. I went years without being tempted to eat it 🤷♀️.
We walked back to my sisters. Scott, Delany and Savana stayed there for the night and I walked to the apartment with Angel. I took a long hot shower and Angel and I went to bed. I posted videos of Facebook and wrote my blog notes. I went to sleep at around 11 PM.
Thank you for reading my blog and being a part of my life. I appreciate you.
Love, Victoria
