Dear Diary,
Good morning God,
- Thank you for this day.
- Thank you for being thankful.
- Thank you for family and friends.
- Thank you for scrabble.
- Thank you for a reliable vehicle.
- Thank you for pet sitting opportunities.
I love you!
I woke up at 1:30 pm. I put another log on the fire, let the dogs out to use the bathroom, wrote my blog and played wordle and connections. At 5 am, I went back to sleep with the dogs cuddled up next to me on the bed. I woke up again at 8:30 am. I put more logs on the fire and let the dogs out. When they came back in, I fed them and made tea. Angel woke up and I made her grilled cheese sandwiches for breakfast. While she ate, I sat on the couch and played with the dogs.
We picked up my friend Brett on the way to my sisters for Thanksgiving dinner. He made a cabbage salad to bring and we brought the pumpkin pie we had made yesterday. On the drive we listened to Christmas music. I told Brett that Thanksgiving is the day that you are officially allowed to listen to Christmas music and also, it’s officially my made up rule. The sun was out and it was a beautiful drive through the canyons. There was very little traffic on the mountain highway and the roads were clear of ice and snow. We had fun conversations on the drive but I don’t remember what they were about.
My sister was bustling around the kitchen when we walked in. She said that everything was going great and the food would be ready at 1 pm. I made a green salad and got out of the way in the kitchen. My sister said there was only room for one person in there. Brett helped me carry Christmas presents out to my truck. I will take them to my kids in Utah when I go there on Saturday. Then he helped me change the sheets on my bed. That way I’ll have a clean bed to sleep in when I come home on Monday.
Angel wanted to play a game of battleship. I got it out and it was Angel and Brett against me. Halfway through the game, Angel lost interest and played with her legos upstairs. Brett and I finished the game and I barely won. If I would have guessed the wrong spot, Brett would have won on his next turn.
My mom and nephew Christopher arrived. We all hugged and finished doing last minute things to get dinner ready. We sat around the table and my mom prayed over the food. Then we all shared what we were grateful for before we started eating. My gratitudes were: I am grateful that we could all be together and that my sister is giving Angel and me a place to live. My sister had made a huge amount of food and it all turned out great. There was even some vegetarian food for me. I ate a huge amount of green salad, potatoes, cabbage salad, pineapple salad and a huge homemade dinner roll. My sisters sourdough dinner rolls turned out really big and fluffy. Then I had a piece of my homemade pumpkin pie. I was stuffed full.
After we finished eating and cleaned up the table. We all played board games. Angel, my mom and my nephew Christopher played Live Junior and Sorry (I call it, sorry-not-sorry). Brett, my sister and I played scrabble. I won the first game and my sister won the second game by a landslide. She was on a roll and totally left us in the dust.
My mom and Christopher left while we were still playing scrabble. We paused the game to hug them goodbye. Before my mom left, she gave me a couple boxes of fabric scraps as well as, a coat and dog bed for Bits. He didn’t seem impressed with either one 😂. He doesn’t like wearing dog coats but since he’s a chihuahua/terrier mix, he gets cold. I put coats on him anyway but he figures out ways to get out of them.
After we finished our second game of scrabble, I wanted to leave to get back to the dogs I am pet sitting. We packed up some food to bring and I hugged my sister and thanked her for all she did to make Thanksgiving a wonderful experience. It was the first Thanksgiving in 10 years that I’ve gotten to spend with my family. On the drive to McCall, we listened to A Diary of a Wimpy Kid audiobook. I dropped Brett off at his place and drove to my pet sitting house.
The dogs were happy to see us. I let them out and fed them. Then they ran all over the house playing with Bits. I put the food we had brought with us in the fridge, made tea and watched the dogs play. Angel and I got ready for bed early. I was tired from eating so much. I read her a couple of chapters from a Magic Treehouse book. Then we had a half hour of reading time. I wrote my blog notes and Angel read some of her children’s books out loud. Her reading is getting better and better, especially since I started having her read for a half hour a day.
I turned out the light and we fell asleep at 8:30 pm.
Thank you for reading my blog and being a part of my life. I appreciate you.
Love, Victoria
